Healthy pet diet, Healthy pet

Human bodies require essential nutrients and a balanced diet to maintain a healthy state of living.  Your pets also require nutrients and a balanced diet to continue to stay active and healthy.  According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) there are six essential nutrients your dog needs in its diet: water, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.  These are the same nutrients us as humans need as well to stay healthy.

Throughout every stage of life humans and animals have different requirements to grow and be healthy.  Both require the mothers milk when first born or a supplement if there are allergies involved. Then once old enough humans graduate to mushed up human food and eventually solids.  Animals are the same, they move onto puppy/kitten food to be weaned off the mothers milk then move onto the adult form of dog/cat food when old enough.  Sometimes an animal has a dietary restriction just like humans do and require a specific brand and formula of food to stay healthy.  Animals can become over weight just like humans do, when that happens you need to take a close look at your animals lifestyle and your own.  If your animal is overweight there is a good chance you may be too.  If you are not to concerned with your own well being then chances are your pet is living a sedentary lifestyle as well.  It is to easy to change up both of your diets and start exercising.  If you have a dog you can start by taking it for walks or playing outside with it.  If you have a cat you can get it mobile and active by introducing new toys and more obstacles it can play and explore in.  You will have to be a little more pro active with your own exercising if you have a cat, unless your cat enjoys being outside then you can go on walks with your cat too.

There are several different kinds of dog food available to the public.  They vary from dry food, wet food, special diet formulas and several other types also based by the age and lifestyle of the dog.  To research what would be best for your dog you can click here: http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/best-dog-foods/.  As always make sure you consult with your vet to make sure you are getting the very best food for your dog, also be aware of recalls that may happen to food.

Cats have a wide variety of food choices as well, this site was helpful in many ways when selecting the best food for your cat: http://www.catfooddispensersreviews.com/cat-food-reviews/.  Again, make sure you double check with your vet to make sure your choice is best for your cats dietary needs.

Treats are big part of training and daily life for your pets, as long as you do not go over board.  There are recommendations on the packages suggesting how many treats you can give your pet in a day.  Be aware that not all treats are safe and healthy for your pets and there are always recalls happening so make sure you stay up to date on the best treats for your pet.

Here are some treats my grandma sent Angel, Chase, and Demon for Christmas.  Chase did not keep all of his treats, most were donated to the animal shelter.

  1. Very informational post. I appreciate that you gave a personal point of view with your babies Angel, Chase, and Demon. It is a great idea to give food links for current and future owners of cats and dogs. What is your opinion on occasionally giving pets human food? Not such harmful foods like raisins or nuts which I heard is difficult for dogs to digest.

  2. I really enjoyed this post. As much as I love my animals, I have never really put much thought into their diet. I want nothing but the happiest and healthiest life for my animals so I will absolutely began paying more attention. I did notice that my cat only likes a certain type of food. She literally refuses to eat anything else but she has lived for 13 years now and is incredibly healthy so I assume it is a good type of food. My dog will eat just about anything you put in front of him including human food but I will now pay better attention to it. Is that acceptable to do? Maybe that could be a topic idea for your next post. Thanks for this informative post!

  3. I like that the comparison between animals, and humans are made because it makes it a lot more relatable. Also I like how you talk about each stage of life that the animals go through and how the food requirements they need also change. I am very excited to see what else there is that goes along with keeping a healthy pet.

  4. Im in love with animals so I really enjoyed reading and learning more about this. Animals diets matter too so they deserve the same amount of nutritions that we do. Id hate to see an over weight dog or any kind of animal wobbling around with no breathe at all. My dog is very healthy and well trained and eats the proper amount of healthy food. Nothing i want more for is him to be healthy like me.

  5. I really enjoyed this post. I have a big love for pets, but I definitely did not put a lot of thought into their diet as I do human diets. I don't think people realize that the necessities that humans need, our pets need just as much. I have two puppies, so it is very important to me to make sure that they are living healthy lives. I will definitely pay more attention to their diet. Thank you for this great post!

  6. I enjoyed reading your post! I have a dog and horse. Both has specific diets to maintain or increase their quality of life. My dog is on a weight maintenance food. The breed is know for being overweight and having joint problems so my family try to keep people food away from her to ensure she can live a longer life. My horse requires a high carb diet and so we get feed that is high is starch that is not just a feed that has a high and then followed by a crash. We look to have high quality hay and grain to keep him full longer and to meet his daily requirements. Ultimately, this can be related to humans. We all require a different diet that is specific to our daily needs. Great post!

  9. This blog post was really informational for anybody who has pets or is thinking about getting a pet. I like how you compared the stages of a pet's diet to that of a child's. Sometimes when people get pets they don't put that much energy into making sure their diet is the best. The same way a human's body responds to it's diet, so does a pet. Great job

  10. I like how you made this personal with the pictures of your dogs. I do not currently have pets especially dogs because I am scared of them, so this information is not relevant at this moment to me. In the future it might be though, so it is good to know what diet pets should have. Just because they are pets doesn't mean they should eat crappy food. I agree pets should have a good diet just like humans should. Good post.

  11. I think that your blog has great facts but also makes me feel like an actual person wrote this. I like that this is so personal to you, I don't feel like I'm reading a boring article with a ton of facts. I have pets at home but I never really thought about all the different nutrients that go into their food until I read this.
